Default Mar-29-2008 - Questions here were Answered by Shaykh Muhammed Al-Maaliki

Is it permissible to accept unemployment benefits from the state if you are a taxpayer in that state? It is considered a type of "social benefit" to society. (How it works is that the federal govt taxes a special tax on employers and taxpayers. This money is then used to compensate people in the state who are unemployed through no fault of their own.)

Assalamualaikum wr wb
My brother has married against my parents' wishes. Now he is not living with us because my parents are not ready to take him inside or talk to him. They say the girl's family background is not good and since their marriage was a result of love between them this will continue in their coming generations. Is it correct for them (parents) to stop talking to their son based on this? or is it like cutting the ties of kinship? they also say that this we are doing as a punishment for going against their wishes.

Assalamou aleikoum wa rahmatoullah wa rahmatoullah,

I thought that even if a woman has her menses, she should still purify herself and make whudu after toilets but a sister told me that it is useless since she is in a state of janaba.
What is preferable ? that she does whudu even if she is on her menses or that she does not ?

May Allah reward you in good, O Shaykh, and all of these at Al Baseerah who made this lecture possible.

Can a sister make wudhu when she is on her menses? And is it prefarable for her to do so?

Asalaamuwalaikum warahmatulallahi wabarakatahu,

May Allah, subhanna wataillah, grant you success in this life and the hereafter and preserve this deen of Islam.
I recently encountered a Muslim, who seemingly is far from the path, who questioned the ligitimacy and importance of the Hadith, particulary the ligitimacy of Sahih Hadith. I believe I gave the correct responses to this argument, but I was wondering if you could give me better explaination that I can use for the next time I am encountered with this issue?
Jazakallahu Khirum!

What is the correct response to those Muslims who question the ligitimacy and importance of Saheeh hadeeth?

Asalaamuwalaikum,

I hope this post/question finds you in good health and in Allah's, subhannatawataillah, favor.
I had a question regarding the "dhikr circles" that some Muslim groups practice. The Hadith they use to justify the "group dhikr", they say, is that the angels surround the group and Allah, subhannawataillah, blesses anyone in or around the group. Please send authentic proofs against the need or use of group thikr circles.
Barakallah feekum!

Default Question

Is it permissible to pay someone who is in a region with poor people expiation money (for breaking the fast), to buy food with the money and give it to the poor people in his region on your behalf?

Asalaamuwalaikum warahmatulallahi wabarakatahu,

I pray that Allah continues to guide you, so you may continue to guide others.
What advice would you give for someone like me who has encountered difficulty/rejection from Muslim family members when I try to give them the dawah? I have tried to give them dawah, but they seem to not want to accept it and they have turned other family members against me because of it? I want to stay motivated, but I am becoming discouraged. Please advise.
Barakallah feekum!

I have several trophies for certain titles that I've gained as an athlete. Some of these trophies have figures of men on top of them. While I don't for the trophies and I do not want to keep these trophies at all as to avoid tashabuh, the trophies are the only proof that I have for winning these titles/awards and these awards with Allah's will may help me move to a Muslim land to find a job as a trainer (I'm currently residing in America). Is it legislated for me to keep these trophies (although they resemble men and surely if Allah wills, the sculptor of these trophies will be punished severely)?

What is the ruling of keeping sports trophies with figures of men sculptured at the top of them? I wish to keep these awards as proof to help me find a job as a trainer in Muslim land.

Asalaamuwalaikum,

Barakallah feekum for taking the time to establish this resource for the Muslims:

Can you give clarification and/or proofs regarding the tapping of the right index finger during the taashahud? How long do you hold the finger up? What is the correct method of using the finger during taashahud??

Jazakallahu khirum

Default CHECKING SHOES before entering the Masjid

Bismillaah ar-Rahmaan ar-Raheem:

Barak Allaahu Feekum:

Is it obligatory to check the shoes for impurity everytime one enters the Masjid? And does this apply to any place of prayer such as a field or market place etc... If the answer is yes, when should the shoes be checked in these places (field, market place, etc)?

Jazakumu-llaahu khayrun!
