As salaamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu, Sometimes the children don't listen or obey and you have to raise your voice. Teaching them to fast and not argue with each other as well. Does it break your fast to raise your voice at your children to get them to behave?

As salaamu alaikum. Jazakallahu Khairn for taking the time to educate us and answer our questions. There is a sister whose parent is older and does not fast many of the days of Ramadhaan due to certain Illnesses. Though asked she does not doesnot always remember or ever inform the daughter on days she does not fast. How can her daughter go about feeding people on her behalf as an expiation without this knowledge?

Assalaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatulahih wa Barakatuh,
In some of the masaajid here in the U.S. they supposedly follow the Madhab of Imam Abu Haneefah(rahimullah). During Taraweeh, they pray witr as 3 rakahs but they pray it with 2 tashaahuud. When told that they should not pray Witr like Maghrib..they say that they follow the Imam(rahimullah) and that there is proof for this way of praying witr but they don't provide anything concrete. My questions are: 1) if we pray in a masaajid that prays witr in this manner ..should we follow the imam in taraweeh prayer and pray witr behind him in this way so we could get the reward of praying the whole night or should we get up and pray witr on our own or basically what is the best course of action? 2) Also, is there any proof in what they say that Imam Abu Haneefah(rahimullah) or anyone else prayed witr this way and what is the proof of this? BarakAllahu Feekum and May Allah(azza wajaal) reward you for your efforts and patience. --------------------------translated by BH-----------------------------

asalamualikum wa rahma tullahi wabaraka tuhu
i wanted to know if this dua is authentic and came in the sunnah of our prophet sallallahu alayhe wa sallam which many countries people recite at the time of iftar? "allahum ma sumtu laka wa taka wak kaltu 'ala rizkika" also, many countries people recite a dua after 2 rakah of witr/taraweeh and then another one after 4 rakah always, they say one must recite these duas after 2 rakah and 4th rakah. is there any such thing? also, they have especial dua to recite to make dua raising hands after each 4 rakah of witr - taraweeh? are these from sunnah? jazak allahu khayr was-salamualikum -------------------------translated by BH-------------------------------- السلام عليكم ورحمة الله بارك الله فيكم. ----------------------translated by BH--------------------------------- Last edited by translator1 : August 25th, 2008 at 16:27. |

Assalaamu Aleikum wa Rahmatullah
My question is related to children. If one deals with teaching the deen to many children, who goes to public school and don't have much Islamic knowledge, nor are their families very practicing in the deen, what should one focus on teaching or advising these children in Ramadaan? The age can range from 4 yrs - 13 yrs. Most of them know how to pray but don't pray at all or don't pray all 5 prayers yet. Jazak Allaahu khairun. Bismillaah wal-hamdu lillaah was-salaatu was-salaamu 'alaa rasooli-llaah
Assalaamu Alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu! Baarak Allaahu Feekum! It is possible to give money to a Muslim Organization who feeds the poor Muslims in order to fulfill the obligation of (Fidyah) feeding a poor person for each day one does not fast? There are little to no poor (miskeen) muslims in our community and it is very small. A brother would make food and find no poor muslims to feed and so give the food to those who were not poor so it would not go to waste. Jazaakum Allaahu Khayraa! -------------------------translated by BH-------------------------------- Last edited by translator1 : August 25th, 2008 at 16:30. |

AsSSalamualykum ,
Note to translator: There are many questions about fidya for not fasting may be the first part of this question can be combined with the others. First Part: For expiation of fasting -- half a sa'a of wheat/rice etc, can one give the equivalent money to poor? If one goes with feeding one person for missing one fast, is it feeding of one meal or feeding the whole daya i.e. two or three meals? Second Question: Prayers can be shortened for a traveler and fasts can be made up during other times, is it related to all travels? i.e. Even if the travel is not for seeking living, or education or some necessity, how about if the travel is for just pleasure, like going to a different country for vacation etc? AsSalamualykum,
If one has missed a lot of fasta (and does not even know the actual number) due to times when he was not practising much, or a women who did not she had to make up fasts lost due to mensuration and now she has reached age of 50 or so, is giving expiation (feeding ppl) and repentence enough or does one has to make up the days by fasting? Is the same ruling for Salah? Fadheelatu Shaykh, Barakallahu feekum
With regards to a woman who missed many fasts due to pregnancy and nursing, I have heard that there is a statement from Ibn Abbas radiyallahu anhu stating that a pregnant or nursing woman does not have to fast if she fears for herself or her child, then they can pay the fidyah (feed a poor person for every day), and they do not have to make up the fast. This is from at Tabari and Shaykh al Albaani said it is saheeh according to the conditions of Muslim. I have also heard that a woman must still make up the fasts even if she pays the fidyah. So please advise us on which opinion is stronger – does the woman have to make up all of the fasts or is paying the fidyah only sufficient? Jazak Allahu Khayran ---------------translated by BH------------ السلام عليكم وبارك الله فيكم. ---------------translated by BH------------

Regarding the permissibility of celebrating Eid by playing duff and dancing, what are the limitations? Is the playing of duff and dancing allowed on the day of Eid only? Please advise us on this matter. Assalamu ‘alaykum, Noble Shaykh,
Today many people celebrate Eid by sending greeting cards and distributing presents to friends and family. I have been advised that these practices are not from the sunnah and are considered to be imitation of the kufaar. Is there any harm in these practices? As-salamu 'alaikum O Shaykh.
Some countries start off Ramadan 1-2 days after Saudia, depending on the decision of the local Research Committee or the local Masjid. Should a person from such country or society start fasting from the day that fasting started in Makkah or should he follow the decision of the people in authority in his locality, even though that might put him at risk with regards to fasting on 'Eid day which is haraam, and also risk missing the blessed night of Qadr?
