Default Feb-07-2009 - Questions here were Answered by Shaykh Abdul-'Azeez Aal Shaykh

as salaamu alaikum

dear moderators,

this question was asked before, but the answer from the shaikh (shaikh ajlaan-hafithahullaah) was not clear, and unfortunately, a fitnah has been made with the answer the shaikh provided. so i am presenting it again, in hopes that the issuse is clarified and that the fitnah ceases.

i tried my best to summarize the question, so if at all possible please do not summarize it, as everything mentioned in the question needs to be mentioned in order to have the clear and precise answer that is desired by those who have been affected by the initial unclear answer.

jazaakumullaahu khair for you understanding in this matter and for you patience with repeat questions.

-------------------question--------------------

yaa shaikh baarakallaahu feeka,

a married sister has an uncurable disease transmitted through intercourse only. eventhough Allah has not yet decreed this disease for her husband, if he wanted to marry another woman, must he mention the possibility of him transmitting the disease from his wife and giving it to her (the new wife) through intercouse, once they are married?

and would the severity of the disease make a difference in this case, as some diseases lead to small issues, whereas others can lead to death?

jazaakallaahu khairan.

a brother asked me to ask:

We have a non-arab imam in america, who is not always available to lead the prayer, because of work, or sometimes i'm come and the prayer is already started. When i am absent, who should lead the prayer:

1. a righteous non-arab muslim who makes grave grammatical mistakes that change the meaning of al-fatihah, or

2. a fasiq who shaves his beard and deals in lottery and doesnt make any mistakes or makes mistakes that do not change the meaning of al-faatihah.

I and the righteous brother are put off by the by fisq of the faasiq, but I am more put off by the righteous brother's bad recitation, so much so, that I don't even think prayer is valid behind him, based on some rulings i have read about the recitation of al-fatihah in prayer.

may Allah help you to assist us wa jazakallahu khair.

Who is more deserving to lead the prayer: a righteous non-arab muslim who makes mistakes in his recitation that change the meaning of al-fatihah or a fasiq who shaves his beard and deals in lottery but who recites al fatihah without changing its meaning?

Assalamualaikum,,

Noble shaykh may allah have mercy upon you

QUESTION 1:
what is the solution to a family who not all its members are practicing, male members look down upon the females, unmarried ones live with the mother (she is divorced), who allows this and seems to show favouritism even though they are in clear wrong. This is encouraged in the culture, and has caused big seperation in the family where the male members show no regard for the female members [the sisters are most if not all on the salafi dawah)], in regards to spendature that the females have resorted to working to maintain themselves. A male member who claims to be upon the salafi dawah seems to be encouraging this seperation, and avoids giving salam and interacting with the females of the household for the love of his wife, and sometimes shows harshness.

_________SUMMARIZED BY MODERATOR_________
Please advise an extended family living with their divorced mother where the mother shows favoritism to her sons, some of them do not practice the deen and look down on the women. most of the women strive to follow the way of Salaf and are also employed to maintain themselves. And one brother claims salafiyyah but is harsh with the women in the household.

QUESTION 2:
What should a woman do if her family have married her to a man who does not pray (and she agreed when she was jahil - and felt she had no choice in the matter) neither does he show concern for the deen of allah, she has tried to call him to the dawah but to no avail, rather she is faced with lack of support from him and his family mock her, and he does not protect her honor. He does not show a liking to her visiting her family or staying with them, neither does he like her to learn the arabic language or sit with the ulamaa when they are in town. She serves him and his family and she lives with them, and works as her husband does not support her financially. she wishes to seek seperation, however she will have no-one to suppor her, as the male members of her family show no concern for her, and do not visit her, and treat her unwell, she cannot turn to them.
What can she do?

_________SUMMARIZED BY MODERATOR_________

Please advise an employed sister whose husband is very deficient in his deen and does not support her financially nor does he like her to seek knowledge. If she seeks khula she will have no one to support her from her own family.

QUESTION 3:
The local salafi masjid holds lessons outside times when sisters are available (they hold classes after isha when children are in bed) and do not seem to show concern to educating sisters. in addition to this their bookshops is not open for sisters except for one hour for sister in the weekend during saltul dhuhr. sisters are not allowed to enter the masjid when they need to pray salah (if salah time enters and they have nowhere else to pray because they are in the middle of doing shoopping etc), during school hours as the masjid has an agreement with the madrassa that they may use the sisters prayer facility. Sisters have been requested to go home (even if they live far in the town) and pray unless they live outside the town.
Sisters have complained but to no avail, what can they do? and how can they advise the masjid (sisters are discouraged from attending lessons other then that of the masjids)
And also is it permissable that sisters be declined to enter the masjid wen lessons are in preogress as this will distract the children?

_________SUMMARIZED BY MODERATOR_________

A sister seeking knowledge asks that you advise the administrators of a salafi masjid where they discourage sisters from attending lessons at other masaajid but do not give them sufficient and open access to the musalla, bookstore and lessons taught at their masjid

QUESTION 4:
Tabarruj is a norm in the society, and it is as if sisters who observe the proper hijaab fulfilling its conditions stands out. we understand that the hijaab should not be decorated - but what would fit this description (stripes of th same colour, etc), i am aware of a narration when the prophet salallhu alaihi w salam gave a green tie dye khimar to his grand daughter and said may you wear it, live in it, grow up in it, or something to this affect, does this mean tie die is permissable for the muslimah to wear

_________SUMMARIZED BY MODERATOR_________

The traditional hijaab in a society is colorful and decorated such that if a sister wears a black or plain hijaab she stands out. Is it permissable to wear stripes and colors in a hijaab as it pertains to the customary dress of a people?

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله وبركاته

i would like to ask the following question with regards to teh zakat due on land

a person purchases a piece of land for the sake of selling it in the future , thus they have to pay zakat on it for every year , however if the person changes their intention to start a farm on the land until they choose to sell it , then is the zakat due on the produce of the farm alone or is it also due on the yearly estimated value of the farm.

and tied into this question as a sub question is if a person has purchased farm land in order to sell it and make a profit but then is unable to sell it and allows for poor people to live and farm the land ( still keeping to sell the land when the oppurtunity comes ) what is the zakaat due in this circumstance?

jazakAllah khair

Default Using Quran Ayah

Asalam Alaykum.
I need clarification on some issues that I am not able to find any proof on my own. I will try to make my question as short as possible.
My question is, about the ayahs in the Quran. When I first became muslim I learnt alot of things that were not authentic, and i recently have been trying to learn what is really from the sunnah and what isnt. One thing that I learnt is that When you want guidance to make a decision, you can read the quran and find guidance that way. You might find an ayah or a surah that is related to your issue and be able to make your decision from there. Or sometimes you read the quran and you feel like Allah is trying to tell you something that is going to happen. This always happens to me when I am reading the quran. For example last year, I was reading quran and I read the ayah in al baqara, ayah 155 "Be sure we shall test you with something of hunger, some loss in goods or lives, or the fruits of your toil, but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere." I have read that ayah so many times but for some reason when I read it this time I felt like I was really going to be tested in those ways. later on that day I got news that My sister past away. 3 weeks later my father passed away. At the time I left my job for different reasons, and financialy things have been very difficult. And my relationship withmy family has become very hard. And there have been other trials, and overall I have had so many trials since I read those ayahs. I have asked some people here about reading quran and applying it to your own life like that and they said there is no proof for that. And I personally havent seen any proof for it either. The reason I am asking this question now is that I am thinking about getting married. And some time ago I was reading the quran and I felt like Allah was trying to tell me that I was going to marry a certain person. It was not just one ayah it was several ayahs, this person has the name of one of the prophets. In addition to this I also have dreams about this person. I actually dreamt about him before I even met him. But i had forgotten about the dreams. actually one day in real life before we had met, I saw him somewhere and I actually made Dua for Allah to send me some one like him because he just looked like a good muslim and had alot of Nur. Some one told me that you are not supposed to rely on your dreams like that, But because some of my dreams come true I take them into consideration. My question is what should I do, because I feel like I dont have the patience to wait and see if I am really going to marry this brother. To be honest I feel a little embarrassed asking this question because It probably sounds crazy. About the quran ayahs, I know only Allah knows the unseen and the future, and Im not claiming that at all, but is there any possibility that he can use those ayahs to tell you about something in your life. because it has happened so many times especially recently. are these valid reasons for me to wait to get married, or should I just try to meet other brothers. In the case that I end up marrying another brother would I be disobeying Allah? Please help, any advise would greatly be apreciated.
Jazakallah Khair.

_________SUMMARIZED BY MODERATOR_________

Sometime I see that my dreams and what i read from quran actually relay to my real life, is it permissible to rely on dreams and is it possible that Allah may signal to us about our affairs through quranic verses.

ASSALAAM ALAIKUM

Mehwish asks:

Quote:
Assalam-u-Alaikum,

I have been married for around one and a half years. My husband is a very strong believer of sufism and has pledged himself to a sufi sheikh, who claims to be in contact with the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), other Prophets (ASWS) and other dead people and keeps on bringing messages for my husband from them. This confuses me a lot and when I try to get references about this from some of the saudi scholars, my husband says that most of the saudi scholars are salafis and that salafis donot believe in all of the sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). My husband believes in his sufi sheikh so much that every decision in the family is taken by referring him. He says that because his sufi sheikh is so pious(he follows the shariah very strongly, which is true), Allah puts everything in his heart. Please help me. As i dont have much knowledge about the different sects, i am very confused. I would like to mention that this sufi sheikh does actually follow the shariah very strongly but his being contact with the dead confuses me. Is it possible? What should i do in such a condition.

Dear Noble Shaykh:

My question is pertaining to playing videos in the masjid. We have some DVD's of lectures/classes with scholars. We would like to play them in the masjid to benefit the people who cannot travel to meet the scholars. Is it permissible to show these videos inside the masjid?
