Be aware of every hour and how it passes, and only spend it in the best possible way; do not neglect yourself, but render it accustomed to the noblest and best of actions, and send to your grave that which will please you when you arrive to it."

- Your Involvement -
This can't be acomplished without your strong commitment and dedication.
Memorization of Nosoos and Mutoon is an essential part of talib Al-ilm, rather, it is the Al-Asl (original matter/foundation) in seeking knowledge and well established practice of the salaf.
We should do our best to focus on memorizing because that is what produces the Ulema and the Huffadh.

Imaam Ar-Ruhaybi said:
والثلثان وهماالتمام --- فاحفظ فكل حافظ إمام

and memorize for every haafidh is the Imaam (Ar-Ruhaybiyyah).
A person can't excel in knowledge until s/he makes the memorization a permanent part of his/her schedule. And a person can't be deeply grounded until s/he memorizes the usool or foundations of knowledge.
Let's not forget the insaan (human being) is calld insaan because of excessive nisyaan (forgetfulness) therefore Allaah showered His Rahmah upon the believers and made Quraan easy to remember. Allah Azza wa Jal Jalla Jalahu wa azza Shanuhu said:

{Nay, but they, the clear Ayaat are preserved in the breasts of those who have been given knowledge} [Al-Ankabut 29:49]

- Intensifying the Importance of Hifdh -

As the Salaf used to say:

من حفظ المتون .. حاز الفنون
who he memorizes the texts has excelled in many sciences (Tazkiratus As-Saami of Imaam Khateeb Al-Baghdaadi)

And their statement:

من حفظ الأصول .. ضمن الوصول

Whoever memorizes the Usool is guaranteed to reach his destination safely (Jaami Bayaan Al-ilm of Imaam Ibn abdul Baar)

And the saying:

من لم يتقنالأصول .. حُرم الوصول

the person who does not master the principles will be deprived from reaching his goal/destination.

We ask Allaah for his Tawfeeq and may he list us among the Huffadh.

- Beware of Common obstacles -

Here are some important points to keep in mind:

Noble brothers and sisters, May Allaah guide you to your success, Knowledge is like an ocean with no shore to bound it, it is too much, so no one should even think that s/he can comprehend it all, But an intelligent person sets the priorities and starts with what is most important. S/he should start slow but steady, sticking with little yet mastering it is better than getting hands everywhere but not being able to finish anything properly.

If you wish to memorize something then protect it by keep repeating it. Ibn Al-Jawzi mentions a nice story of Al-Haafidh Abu Bakr An-Neysabuuri, once he was reading out loud and repeating the text over and over to memorize it and one of the lady in his house said I have memorized it by listening to you how come you didn't memorize it yet so he told her to read it and she did and after few days he asked the lady; can you repeat the text from that day, she said I have forgotten it so he said this is the reason why I was keep repeating so what has afflicted you (of forgetfulness) will not happen to me.

Beware of satanic tricks while you are seeking knowledge. Unfortunately we find many brothers and sisters when they start seeking knowledge they lack focus, commitment, steadiness and concentration.

For instance, a person decides to memorize the quraan, in the beginning s/he seems to be very committed, rather over excited with strong enthusiasm to memorize it all which may not remain same after few months, illa man Rahima Rabbi.

First s/he decides to start from juzz 'Amma but after some time s/he changes the mind and starts from the beginning (surah Al-baqarah) thinking that memorizing in order is better then starting from the end. Behold!! soon after some time s/he stops again and decides to memorize the Surah (chapter) which has fadaail or are recommended to read on daily or weekly basis like suraah Al-kahf, or Surah Al-Jumuah or the last verses of Surah Al-baqarah etc, so the end result is not getting anything done properly.

Same thing goes when it comes to reading books, person may pick the book of fiqh and after reading few pages thinks that s/he should read books on 'Aqeedah and then without finishing the book on 'Aqeedah s/he jumps on to read the books of Ahaadeeth and so on.. and the end result is that person can't even finish one book from cover to cover rather is always jumping from one book to another etc..

So be careful of these obstacles and be firm and committed in your Talab al-ilm.

- Let's Get Serious -

Take advantage of your time and make a promise to yourself that you will memorize at least a number of Surahs, Ahaadeeth and Texts (matn). Promise yourself to read (from cover to cover with proper understanding ) books on 'Aqeedah, Fiqh, as well as tafseer of some chapters of the Qur'aan. Also read on Seerah (the Life of the Prophet sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam), on life stories of companions and Salaf, etc.

Know that, May Allaah assist you in your affairs, this can't be accomplished without the Tawfeeq of Allaah, so make your intentions sincerely for Allaah because the knowledge is silent prayer and Eebadah of heart.

- Where Albaseerah.Org comes in -

To fully benefit and to excel in seeking knowledge you should have someone checking on you and following up with you, and this is where the reminders and albaseerah's services come into play.

As should be obvious, this task of memorizing the Book of Allah, ahadeeth and texts requires great self-determination, patience and perserverance among other things. And in the end, it goes back to YOU forcing YOURSELF. But, insha Allah, the following are the ways we believe albaseerah can help you in your memorization:

1) You resolve to tell us what you have memorized either from the Qur'aan, Hadeeth and/or Texts (by submiting it as a message on this forum) on a daily or weekly basis. This helps in two ways, insha Allah:
+ By posting it, it helps you check that what you have memorized is correct and complete and also helps it to stick more in your memory
+ If you ever slack in your memorization, we would notice, and we can insha Allah, encourage you and 're-start' you.

2) Apart from posting what you have memorized on the forum, we also hold review sessions in our virtual classroom (Wiziq) where we read to one another what we have memorized, correct what needs to be corrected, and share beneficial knowledge especially in the recitation of the Qur'aan. This way, insha Allah, your memorization (hifdh) would be correct and by knowing that you would be reviewing with your brothers/sisters, you would be pushed to memorize, insha Allah.
